{"id":553,"date":"2025-07-20T18:58:48","date_gmt":"2025-07-20T18:58:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tona.today\/?p=553"},"modified":"2025-07-20T19:40:48","modified_gmt":"2025-07-20T19:40:48","slug":"donald-trump-files-suit-against-rupert-murdoch-dow-jones-over-wall-street-journals-jeffrey-epstein-story","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tona.today\/?p=553","title":{"rendered":"Donald Trump files suit against Rupert Murdoch, Dow Jones over Wall Street Journal\u2019s Jeffrey Epstein story"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Donald Trump\u00a0has followed through on his\u00a0threat to sue Rupert Murdoch\u00a0and his media companies over the\u00a0<em>Wall Street Journal<\/em>&#8216;s report on a bawdy letter in his name that was included in an album given to\u00a0Jeffrey Epstein\u00a0for his 50th birthday in 2003.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A defamation lawsuit (read it here) was filed in a Florida federal court Friday seeing damages \u201cnot less than $10 billion\u201d and a jury trial. It names Murdoch,&nbsp;<em>Journal&nbsp;<\/em>publisher Dow Jones, parent company News Corp and its CEO Robert Thomson and the reporters on the story, Khadeeja Safdar and Joseph Palazzolo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Kizz Daniel, Tekno - Buga (Official Video)\" width=\"980\" height=\"551\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bLF90M96m2Q?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump confirmed the filing in a Truth Social post, writing in part, \u201cThis lawsuit is filed not only on behalf of your favorite President, ME, but also in order to continue standing up for ALL Americans who will no longer tolerate the abusive wrongdoings of the Fake News Media.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He added, \u201cI hope Rupert and his \u2018friends\u2019 are looking forward to the many hours of depositions and testimonies they will have to provide in this case.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<em>WSJ&nbsp;<\/em>story published on Thursday included Trump\u2019s denials that he ever wrote the letter, as well as his legal threat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A spokesperson for the Journal said, \u201cWe have full confidence in the rigor and accuracy of our reporting, and will vigorously defend&nbsp;against any lawsuit.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<em>WSJ&nbsp;<\/em>report centered on a birthday album that was given to Epstein in 2003, featured collected letters from some of his friends. Among the letters was one bearing Trump\u2019s name that \u201ccontains several lines of typewritten text framed by the outline of a naked woman, which appears to be hand-drawn with a heavy marker,\u201d the&nbsp;<em>Journal&nbsp;<\/em>reported, adding that a \u201cpair of small arcs denotes the woman\u2019s breasts, and the future president\u2019s signature is a squiggly \u2018Donald\u2019 below her waist, mimicking pubic hair.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The letter text included an imaginary conversation between Trump and Epstein, according to the Journal, that concluded with the line, \u201cA pal is a wonderful thing. Happy Birthday \u2014 and may every day be another wonderful secret.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the president\u2019s lawsuit, he claimed that the reporters \u201cfalsely pass off as fact that President Trump, in 2003, wrote, drew, and signed this letter. And on the other hand, Defendants Safdar and Palazzolo failed to attach the letter, failed to attach the alleged drawing, failed to show proof that President Trump authored or signed any such letter, and failed to explain how this purported letter was obtained. The reason for those failures is because no authentic letter or drawing exists. Defendants concocted this story to malign President Trump\u2019s character and integrity and deceptively portray him in a false light.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Journal reported that it was Ghislaine Maxwell&nbsp;who collected the letters from Trump and dozens of Epstein\u2019s other associates. The story described the letter as one \u201cbearing Trump\u2019s name.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump\u2019s lawsuit stated that the letter \u201cdoes not explain whether Defendants have obtained a copy of the letter, have seen it, have had it described to them, or any other circumstances that would otherwise lend credibility to the Article.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The lawsuit claimed that Murdoch and Thomson \u201cauthorized the publication of the Article after President Trump put them both on notice that the letter was fake and nonexistent.\u201d In a Truth Social post on Thursday, Trump wrote that he \u201ctold&nbsp;Rupert Murdoch&nbsp;it was a Scam, that he shouldn\u2019t print this Fake Story.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To prevail in a defamation case, Trump would have to show not only that the article\u2019s statements were false, but that they were done with malice or reckless disregard for the truth. He claimed in the lawsuit that the defendants acted with \u201cactual malice, oppression and fraud in that they were aware at the time of the falsity of the publication and thus, made said publications in bad faith, out of disdain and ill-will directed towards Plaintiff without any regard for the truth.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump wrote on Truth Social earlier on Friday, \u201cI look forward to getting Rupert Murdoch to testify in my lawsuit against him and his \u2018pile of garbage\u2019 newspaper, the WSJ.
