{"id":422,"date":"2025-07-10T19:25:07","date_gmt":"2025-07-10T19:25:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tona.today\/?p=422"},"modified":"2025-07-10T19:25:08","modified_gmt":"2025-07-10T19:25:08","slug":"k-pop-singer-jailed-three-and-a-half-years-for-rape","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tona.today\/?p=422","title":{"rendered":"K-pop singer jailed three and a half years for rape"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>South Korean singer Taeil, formerly from the K-pop band NCT, has been sentenced to three years and six months in prison for rape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Taeil, 31, and two accomplices, named in South Korean reports only as Lee and Hong, admitted in June to taking turns assaulting their victim &#8211; a Chinese tourist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Asake - Organise (Official Video)\" width=\"980\" height=\"551\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_u4_iWCvZ5c?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A district judge in Seoul described the crime as &#8220;extremely grave&#8221;, but handed them just half the seven-year sentence requested by prosecutors, noting they were first time offenders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The court also ordered the three men to complete 40 hours of a treatment programme designed for perpetrators of sexual violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The court heard they had met their victim at a bar in the Itaewon district in Seoul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She became &#8220;heavily intoxicated&#8221; after drinking with them, the court heard. They then got into a taxi to Lee&#8217;s house, where the assault happened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>South Korean law describes this specific kind of rape as &#8220;aggravated&#8221; because it was a group attack, and a &#8220;quasi rape&#8221;, as the victim was unconscious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Taeil, whose real name is Moon Tae-il,\u00a0left NCT in August last year\u00a0when allegations first emerged, although the exact details of the crime were not publicly known at the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Introduced as a K-pop band in January 2016, NCT is known for its experimental music spanning various genres and has gained international attention with some releases charting on Billboard lists. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/cp820gypnn6o\">(BBC)<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>South Korean singer Taeil, formerly from the K-pop band NCT, has been sentenced to three years and six months in prison for rape.
