The outage had made it difficult for many users to access account management, gaming, video, the PlayStation Store and Direct services on the internet and their console devices, like the PlayStation 5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The outage was among the longest the platform has experienced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In April 2011, almost all of PlayStation Network\u2019s subscribers&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2011\/10\/12\/tech\/gaming-gadgets\/sony-playstation-network-attack\/index.html\">lost access<\/a>&nbsp;to its services for nearly a month following a data breach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sony and PlayStation did not respond to CNN\u2019s requests for comment. PlayStation has not stated what caused the outage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some users had posted to TikTok and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/EthanGaming647\/status\/1888312882586124724\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">X<\/a>\u00a0that they were regaining access on Saturday afternoon, though some claimed the functioning service was only temporary. PSN has an estimated 116 million monthly users, according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sonyinteractive.com\/en\/our-company\/business-data-sales\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sony <\/a>Interactive Entertainment estimates\u00a0from September 30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Friday night, the services team for Marvel Rivals \u2014 a game released in December on platforms including PlayStation \u2014 posted to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MarvelRivals\/status\/1888076035775938961\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">X<\/a>&nbsp;that users \u201cmight have difficulty launching games, apps, or network features.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The post also said that they were \u201cactively communicating with the PlayStation team.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re seeing players able to log-in and play again on PlayStation platforms, but not all game services may be back online,\u201d Fortnite\u2019s services team\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/FortniteStatus\/status\/1888312310361362720\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">posted<\/a>\u00a0to X on Saturday afternoon. <a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2025\/02\/08\/business\/playstation-global-outage\/index.html\">(CNN)<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sony\u2019s PlayStation Network (PSN), which connects gamers online on its systems, experienced a massive outage that lasted about 24 hours.
