{"id":342,"date":"2025-07-03T07:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-07-03T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tona.today\/?p=342"},"modified":"2025-07-02T22:49:48","modified_gmt":"2025-07-02T22:49:48","slug":"court-convicts-social-media-influencers-for-naira-abuse-in-oyo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tona.today\/?p=342","title":{"rendered":"Court convicts social media influencers for Naira abuse in Oyo"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Justice Uche Agomoh of the Federal High Court, sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State, has convicted two social media influencers, Bukola Rufai and Abdulateef Jimoh, for abusing naira notes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This was contained in a statement released by the Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Yemi Alade - Tomorrow (Official Music Video)\" width=\"980\" height=\"551\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/G4u2yMsPdG8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The statement reads, \u201cThe convicts were prosecuted on a joint one-count charge that bordered on currency mutilation by the Ibadan Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The charge read, \u201cThat you Bukola Rufai and Abdulateef Jimoh on or about the 25th day of September, 2024 within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, did match on Naira Notes, issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria and thereby committed an offence, contrary to Section 21 (3) of the Central Bank Act 2007 and Punishable under Section 21 (1) of the same Act.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They pleaded \u201cguilty\u201d when the charge, following which the prosecution counsel, Lanre Suleiman, reviewed the facts of the case, tendered incriminating evidence and prayed the court to convict and sentence them accordingly, while the defence counsel, O.D. Ajadi told the court to temper justice with mercy, stating that the duo are first offenders and have become remorseful of their actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Agomoh convicted \u201cboth offenders without a sentence and gave them N50,000 option of fine each.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The statement added that both convicts paved their way for arrest and prosecution when they made a video of themselves, spraying and trampling on Naira notes and posting it on TikTok. <a href=\"https:\/\/punchng.com\/court-convicts-social-media-influencers-for-naira-abuse-in-oyo\/\">(Punch)<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Justice Uche Agomoh of the Federal High Court, sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State, has convicted two social media influencers, Bukola Rufai and Abdulateef Jimoh, for abusing naira notes.
