{"id":2852,"date":"2026-03-05T21:47:30","date_gmt":"2026-03-05T21:47:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tona.today\/?p=2852"},"modified":"2026-03-05T21:47:32","modified_gmt":"2026-03-05T21:47:32","slug":"taiwo-oyedele-says-12-states-have-enacted-tax-harmonisation-law","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tona.today\/?p=2852","title":{"rendered":"Taiwo Oyedele says 12 states have enacted tax harmonisation law"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Taiwo Oyedele, minister of state for finance-designate, says at least 12 states have enacted the tax harmonisation law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;tax harmonisation law&nbsp;is part of the broader tax reform agenda introduced by the administration of President Bola Tinubu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Rema - Baby (Is it a Crime) [Official Video]\" width=\"980\" height=\"551\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/MsZhYgo9MoA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>On January 1, the president said harmonised tax laws will boost the federal government\u2019s capacity to fund infrastructure projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to NAN, Oyedele spoke on Wednesday in Abuja during the graduation ceremony of 5,900 young entrepreneurs trained by the MTN Foundation on entrepreneurship, business and innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said 13 other states have already presented the proposed law before their respective state houses of assembly for consideration, while others are at different stages of implementing the reforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The minister-designate added that the tax reforms initiated by President Bola Tinubu are designed to modernise Nigeria\u2019s fiscal framework, support business growth, protect vulnerable groups and reset the country\u2019s economic structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oyedele said the states tax harmonisation law seeks to eliminate nuisance taxes and prevent harassment of citizens under any guise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He added that the law will simplify the tax system, protect taxpayers\u2019 rights and address unfair tax treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTransparency, fiscal discipline, responsibility and accountability remain critical pillars of an effective tax system,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On June 26, 2025, Tinubu\u00a0signed\u00a0the four tax reform bills into law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The president said the reforms are not about raising taxes, but about creating a structural reset, driving harmonisation and strengthening the social contract. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecable.ng\/taiwo-oyedele-says-12-states-have-enacted-tax-harmonisation-law\/\">(TheCable)<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Taiwo Oyedele, minister of state for finance-designate, says at least 12 states have enacted the tax harmonisation law.
