{"id":2475,"date":"2026-01-13T21:38:20","date_gmt":"2026-01-13T21:38:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tona.today\/?p=2475"},"modified":"2026-01-13T21:38:22","modified_gmt":"2026-01-13T21:38:22","slug":"golden-globes-2026-one-battle-after-another-and-british-series-adolescence-win-big","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tona.today\/?p=2475","title":{"rendered":"Golden Globes 2026: &#8220;One Battle After Another&#8221; and British series &#8220;Adolescence&#8221; win big"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The stars of film and TV gathered in Los Angeles on Sunday for the<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>83rd Golden Globes ceremony, and Paul Thomas Anderson\u2019s\u00a0<em>One Battle After Another<\/em>\u00a0and Netflix miniseries\u00a0Adolescence\u00a0emerged as the big winners on the night, earning four Globes apiece.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>One Battle After Another<\/em>&nbsp;won Best Film (Comedy or Musical), Best Supporting Actress for Teyana Taylor, Best Director and Best Screenplay, both for Anderson, who has become only the second filmmaker after Oliver Stone to collect Best Director, Screenplay and Film (as a producer) at the Globes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Asake - Organise (Official Video)\" width=\"980\" height=\"551\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_u4_iWCvZ5c?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Loosely inspired by Thomas Pynchon&#8217;s postmodern countercultural novel \u201cVineland\u201d, Anderson\u2019s tenth feature centers around a dishevelled revolutionary (Leonardo DiCaprio) who is forced out of retirement when a former enemy (Sean Penn) threatens his daughter (Chase Infiniti) in a bid to revive an old grudge. Euronews Culture ranked it\u00a0our Number 1 Movie of 2025<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>and it is the clear front-runner this awards season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In one of the evening\u2019s best speeches, singer and actress Teyana Taylor sent a message to &#8220;my brown sisters and little brown girls watching tonight&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Our light does not need permission to shine,&#8221; she told them. &#8220;We belong in every room we walk into. Our voices matter and our dreams deserve space.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While many were betting on Ryan Coogler\u2019s vampire thriller\u00a0<em>Sinners<\/em><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>to take Best Film in the Drama section, Chlo\u00e9 Zhao&#8217;s\u00a0<em>Hamnet<\/em>, a speculative drama about William and Agnes Shakespeare based on Maggie O\u2019Farrell\u2019s bestselling novel, pulled off an upset by winning the Best Film (Drama). Its star, Jessie Buckley, also won Best Actress in a Drama.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the Oscars, Buckley will have to compete against Rose Byrne, who was rewarded for her lead performance in Mary Bronstein\u2019s punishing parental drama\u00a0<em>If I Had Legs I\u2019d Kick You<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Sinners<\/em>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0another one of our 2025 favourites\u00a0&#8211; did end up winning Best Score and the Cinematic and Box-office Achievement award, beating the likes of<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><em>Avatar: Fire and Ash<\/em>,<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><em>F1<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Weapons<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Mission: Impossible \u2013 The Final Reckoning<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other big winners of the evening include Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet, who nabbed his first Golden Globe for Marty Supreme, beating George Clooney and Leonardo DiCaprio. The 30-year-old is poised to win his first Oscar for his role in Josh Safdie\u2019s first solo outing behind the camera. Loosely inspired by the life and career of US ping-pong player Marty Reisman, Marty Supreme is a coming-of-age film about scheming and whatever-it-takes determination in the face of adversity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy dad instilled in me a spirit of gratitude growing up: Always be grateful for what you have,\u201d said Chalamet. \u201cIt\u2019s allowed me to leave this ceremony in the past empty handed, my head held high, grateful just to be here. I\u2019d be lying if I didn\u2019t say those moments didn\u2019t make this moment that much sweeter.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Elsewhere, Brazilian actor Wagner Moura was the surprise winner in the Drama category for his role in the political thriller\u00a0<em>The Secret Agent<\/em>, becoming the first Brazilian to win the award. His win follows\u00a0Fernanda Torres\u2019 success last year\u00a0for\u00a0<em>I\u2019m Still Here<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This is a film about memory \u2013 or the lack of memory &#8211; and generational trauma,&#8221; Moura said. \u201cI think that if trauma can be passed along generations, values can too. So this is to the ones that are sticking with their values in difficult moments.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Secret Agent<\/em>\u00a0also won Best Film (Non-English language), beating favourite\u00a0<em>Sentimental Value<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Swedish actor Stellan Skarsg\u00e5rd, 74, did win Best Supporting Actor for&nbsp;<em>Sentimental Value<\/em>.
