{"id":2419,"date":"2026-01-07T08:27:00","date_gmt":"2026-01-07T08:27:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tona.today\/?p=2419"},"modified":"2026-01-07T02:41:23","modified_gmt":"2026-01-07T02:41:23","slug":"tinubu-appoints-first-female-dg-of-nigerian-law-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tona.today\/?p=2419","title":{"rendered":"Tinubu appoints first female DG of Nigerian Law School"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>President Bola Tinubu has appointed Olugbemisola Odusote as the new Director-General (DG) of the Nigerian Law School (NLS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Rema - Baby (Is it a Crime) [Official Video]\" width=\"980\" height=\"551\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/MsZhYgo9MoA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>He said the appointment, which takes effect from January 10, 2026, is for a four-year term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs Director-General, Odusote will be responsible for the institution\u2019s overall academic leadership, administrative management, and strategic direction across all campuses,\u201d the statement reads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cShe will also serve as the primary liaison between the school, the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers, and the Nigerian Bar Association.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the statement, Odusote, 57, will succeed Isa Chiroma, the current DG, whose tenure expires on January 9, 2026, after eight years of service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The appointee is currently the deputy director-general and head of the Lagos campus of the Nigerian Law School. She will become the first woman to lead the institution since its establishment in 1962.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Odusote obtained her bachelor\u2019s degree in law from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) and was called to the bar in 1988.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She holds a master\u2019s from the same university, specialising in company and commercial law, and a doctorate degree in law from the University of Surrey, United Kingdom (UK), with research focus on public law and administration of justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Odusote joined the Nigerian Law School as a lecturer in 2001 and has risen through the ranks, serving as head of academic department, director of academics, and head of campus.  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.channelstv.com\/2026\/01\/06\/tinubu-appoints-first-female-dg-of-nigerian-law-school\/\">(Channels)<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Bola Tinubu has appointed Olugbemisola Odusote as the new Director-General (DG) of the Nigerian Law School (NLS).
