{"id":2326,"date":"2025-12-30T20:45:15","date_gmt":"2025-12-30T20:45:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tona.today\/?p=2326"},"modified":"2025-12-30T20:45:16","modified_gmt":"2025-12-30T20:45:16","slug":"lastma-bans-illegal-parking-for-lagos-cross-over-night","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tona.today\/?p=2326","title":{"rendered":"LASTMA bans illegal parking for Lagos cross-over night"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has officially banned all forms of indiscriminate parking and road obstruction as the state prepares for the massive influx of commuters during the upcoming 2025 \u2013 2026 Cross-Over Night celebrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a statement issued on Sunday by the Director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Adebayo Taofiq, the agency revealed a \u201czero-tolerance\u201d stance against motorists who convert public roads into parking lots or event spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Yemi Alade - Tomorrow (Official Music Video)\" width=\"980\" height=\"551\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/G4u2yMsPdG8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Addressing the expected surge in activities at worship centers, nightclubs, and event venues, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, warned that the agency is ready to enforce traffic laws strictly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cLASTMA strongly condemns the abuse of public road infrastructure through its conversion into improvised parking spaces or informal event venues, describing such acts as egregious violations of traffic regulations with far-reaching implications for public safety, emergency response and urban mobility\u201d, Bakare-Oki said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To manage the \u201cexponential increase\u201d in movements, Bakare-Oki disclosed that a specialised enforcement framework has been activated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This, according to him, includes the recently inaugurated \u2018LASTMA 24-Hour Night Gangs\u2019, a dedicated unit of trained officers and surveillance teams tasked with clearing flashpoints across the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The agency further appealed to the leadership of religious institutions and social hubs to take responsibility for their guests\u2019 vehicles, rather than allowing them to spill onto major carriageways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bakare-Oki stressed that the success of the night depends on mutual cooperation between the public and enforcement officers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cCollective compliance remains indispensable to the realisation of a peaceful, orderly and seamlessly managed cross-over night across Lagos State\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">LASTMA urged residents to remain patient and cooperative as the agency works to maintain order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the event of traffic-related emergencies, members of the public are advised to contact the LASTMA toll-free hotline at 0800 005 27862 for real-time intervention. <a href=\"https:\/\/punchng.com\/lastma-bans-illegal-parking-for-lagos-cross-over-night\/?utm_source=auto-read-also&amp;utm_medium=web\">(Punch)<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has officially banned all forms of indiscriminate parking and road obstruction as the state prepares for the massive influx of commuters during the upcoming 2025 \u2013 2026 Cross-Over Night celebrations.
