{"id":2119,"date":"2025-12-17T12:50:22","date_gmt":"2025-12-17T12:50:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tona.today\/?p=2119"},"modified":"2025-12-17T12:50:24","modified_gmt":"2025-12-17T12:50:24","slug":"dembele-and-bonmati-crowned-at-fifa-best-2025-as-wiegman-and-hampton-win-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tona.today\/?p=2119","title":{"rendered":"Demb\u00e9l\u00e9 and Bonmat\u00ed crowned at Fifa Best 2025 as Wiegman and Hampton win awards"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The France forward Ousmane Demb\u00e9l\u00e9 and the Spain midfielder Aitana Bonmat\u00ed were crowned the Fifa Best men\u2019s and women\u2019s players of 2025 respectively at the world governing body\u2019s awards ceremony in Doha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Paris Saint-Germain\u2019s Demb\u00e9l\u00e9 won the trophy for the first time after his club\u2019s maiden Champions League triumph, while Barcelona\u2019s Bonmat\u00ed won for the third consecutive year, after her club reached a Champions League final and Spain were Euro 2025 runners-up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Olamide, Wizkid - Kai! (Official Video)\" width=\"980\" height=\"735\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/7tChMHOrQJM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The best women\u2019s coach prize was awarded to Sarina Wiegman for the fifth time, in recognition of England\u2019s successful defence of their European title, while PSG\u2019s Luis Enrique received the men\u2019s coach honour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wiegman, in a pre-recorded acceptance speech, said: \u201cThank you to the FA for their continued support for me and the team. This award is actually for players and staff. We\u2019ve shown so much conviction, belief and togetherness that led us to our second Euro win. Moving into 2026, let\u2019s keep pushing the women\u2019s game forward together.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Four Lionesses \u2013 Hannah Hampton, Lucy Bronze, Leah Williamson and Alessia Russo \u2013 were named in a best women\u2019s XI that was otherwise made up of Spain internationals: the Arsenal midfielder Mariona Caldentey and six Barcelona players.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The men\u2019s best XI included England\u2019s Jude Bellingham and Cole Palmer \u2013 who starred at the Club World Cup \u2013 in a team otherwise dominated by PSG and Barcelona players. Manchester City\u2019s Gianluigi Donnarumma was named as the goalkeeper but the timeframe for these awards took into account performances between 11 August 2024 and 2 August 2025, when Donnarumma was playing for PSG. There was no place for Harry Kane, but the 18\u2011year\u2011old Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal was included.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hampton was named the 2025 Fifa Best women\u2019s goalkeeper, completing a global goalkeeper award double after she received the Ballon d\u2019Or prize for keepers in September. Wiegman, Luis Enrique, Bonmat\u00ed, Demb\u00e9l\u00e9 and Donnarumma were also Ballon d\u2019Or winners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hampton saved two penalties in the European Championship final shootout and helped Chelsea to win a domestic treble last season. She is also on the shortlist for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award, which will be announced on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hampton is the sixth winner of Fifa\u2019s Best women\u2019s goalkeeper award since its inception in 2019, after Sari van Veenendaal, Sarah Bouhaddi in 2020, Christiane Endler in 2021, the two-time winner Mary Earps and the winner last year, Alyssa Naeher of the US.Votes are collected from national team coaches and captains, specialist journalists and fans, each making up 25% of the poll. Hampton thanked those who had voted for her, before namechecking her coaches: \u201cTo Sarina [Wiegman] and to Sonia [Bompastor] for the belief in me this year. Both at club and country, we\u2019ve achieved so much and there\u2019s still so much set out for us to go and get.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Donnarumma took the men\u2019s prize after lifting the Champions League for the first time at the end of a campaign in which PSG won a domestic treble. \u201cIt was an incredible year, one that will live long in my memory, and it\u2019s touching to be recognised for my role in the success achieved over that period,\u201d Donnarumma said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lizbeth Ovalle won the Marta award, for the most popular goal scored in women\u2019s football in 2025, named after the Brazil legend Marta, who was also nominated. Ovalle took the prize for her\u00a0remarkable and unusual flicked goal\u00a0scored for Tigres against Guadalajara in Liga MX Femenil action on 3 March. She later signed for the American club Orlando Pride for $1.5m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Puskas award for the best men\u2019s goal went to Santiago Montiel, who scored with a\u00a0breathtaking overhead kick\u00a0for the Argentinian side Independiente against Independiente Rivadavia.
