{"id":1376,"date":"2025-10-05T16:52:22","date_gmt":"2025-10-05T16:52:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tona.today\/?p=1376"},"modified":"2025-10-05T16:52:24","modified_gmt":"2025-10-05T16:52:24","slug":"lionel-richie-reveals-nickname-for-michael-jackson-due-to-poor-hygiene","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tona.today\/?p=1376","title":{"rendered":"Lionel Richie reveals nickname for Michael Jackson due to poor hygiene"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Lionel Richie\u00a0has revealed details about the late\u00a0Michael Jackson\u2019s hygiene habits, which he said led to the singer earning the unsavory nickname \u201cSmelly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 76-year-old \u201cAll Night Long\u201d singer made the revelation in his debut memoir,&nbsp;<em>Truly<\/em>, published Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Rema - AZAMAN\" width=\"980\" height=\"551\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Z2L51xr45As?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In the book, Richie wrote about how\u00a0Jackson was \u201cvery close with his siblings and his mom,\u201d but once he went solo, \u201cmaking these monster albums, movies and videos, he was in charge of his own ship.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHis day-to-day life was what you could call eccentric,\u201d he said of his friend. \u201cLike an absent-minded professor but still a kid.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Richie noted that\u00a0fellow music icon Quincy Jones\u00a0would often tease Jackson by calling him \u201cSmelly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMichael would laugh too, realizing that he was oblivious to the fact that he hadn\u2019t changed or washed his clothes for a couple of days or so,\u201d the Grammy winner added. \u201cWe all have our quirks.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Richie suggested that Jackson\u2019s poor hygiene was a byproduct of his significant level of fame, as the King of Pop was constantly touring and had little time to run errands like visiting a department store.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe was on tour performing in the elaborate costumes made for him by his stylists, or he was in his pajama bottoms and slippers in the studio or he was in his going-out attire,\u201d he penned. \u201cOr he was at home in something loose and comfortable so he could practice his dance moves and play with his menagerie of pets.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whenever Jackson \u201ccame to visit me, he was wearing whatever \u2014 jeans and a t-shirt,\u201d Richie recalled. \u201cAnd the jeans were either falling off him or too short to even be jeans and, well, smelly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Richie once asked the superstar about his pants, only to have him respond: \u201cLionel, I walked by a store in the Valley. The owner came out and gave me a free pair.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u201cEndless Love\u201d singer further explained that Jackson couldn\u2019t simply send his clothes to get drycleaned, because more often than not, his items wouldn\u2019t be returned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEverybody kept something for a souvenir,\u201d Richie said. \u201cHe just got into the habit of wearing the same pants until they were unwearable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jackson has previously been described as \u201cthe dirtiest, most unsanitary person in Hollywood\u201d\u00a0by five of his former housekeepers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a 2014 interview with the&nbsp;<em>New York Post<\/em>, they claimed the singer \u201clived in a house of filth and urinated on the floor.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMichael sometimes ran around where the animals were, and he\u2019d track&#8230; Poop throughout the house and think nothing of it,\u201d Anonymous Maid 1 alleged. \u201cThen, if you said something, he\u2019d threaten to make doo-doo snowballs and throw it at you.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/arts-entertainment\/music\/news\/lionel-richie-michael-jackson-nickname-b2839221.html\">(Independent)<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lionel Richie\u00a0has revealed details about the late\u00a0Michael Jackson\u2019s hygiene habits, which he said led to the singer earning the unsavory nickname \u201cSmelly.\u201d The 76-year-old \u201cAll Night Long\u201d singer made the revelation in his debut memoir,&nbsp;Truly, published Tuesday.
