{"id":1286,"date":"2025-10-01T07:58:00","date_gmt":"2025-10-01T07:58:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tona.today\/?p=1286"},"modified":"2025-10-01T02:36:22","modified_gmt":"2025-10-01T02:36:22","slug":"lagos-court-remands-nurtw-leader-for-suspected-murder","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tona.today\/?p=1286","title":{"rendered":"Lagos court remands NURTW leader for suspected murder"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Ebute Metta Chief Magistrate\u2019s Court on Tuesday remanded the leader of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Shamsideen Oladiti aka Shameleon, at the correctional centre, pending the legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PUNCH Metro reported that the Lagos State Police Command arrested Oladiti over allegations of assault and murder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Yemi Alade - Tomorrow (Official Music Video)\" width=\"980\" height=\"551\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/G4u2yMsPdG8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The 55-year-old man, according to a statement by the command\u2019s Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Babaseyi Oluseyi, allegedly attacked a dispatch rider on Lagos Island, using a helmet and fists to inflict serious injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The command\u2019s deputy spokesman also explained that a separate complaint had earlier been lodged against the suspect over an incident on August 28, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He noted that during an altercation, Oladiti allegedly used a metallic ring to repeatedly strike another man on the head and face, leaving him with severe injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oluseyi said that despite medical care, the victim died on September 17, 2025, and his remains had since been deposited in the mortuary for autopsy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The suspect had since been held at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The police, however, arraigned him on a three-count charge, after which the court ordered his remand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The case was also adjourned to October 28, and the case was ordered to be duplicated to the state Directorate of Public Prosecutions for advice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was gathered that the death of the deceased, identified as Imam Ramon, triggered protests at the suspect\u2019s office in Sandgrouse Market, Lagos Island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sympathisers were also said to have set two of Adio\u2019s motorcycles ablaze, heightening tension in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The incident again brought to the fore the high-handedness of some NURTW officials in the country, as residents called on the government to curb their excesses. <a href=\"https:\/\/punchng.com\/lagos-court-remands-nurtw-leader-for-suspected-murder\/?utm_source=auto-read-also&amp;utm_medium=web\">(Punch)<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Ebute Metta Chief Magistrate\u2019s Court on Tuesday remanded the leader of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Shamsideen Oladiti aka Shameleon, at the correctional centre, pending the legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
